Look Ahead and Schedule for Loop 101 Widening Project
Loop 101 – Pima Freeway
Expect overnight mainline restrictions (reduced to two lanes) near Indian Bend Road and Via de Ventura to place new temporary concrete barrier along the roadside this week. Expect overnight closures at Chaparral Road and Via de Ventura to install bridge piers and median features this week. Expect long term ramp restrictions at McKellips Road through the end of April and northbound ramps at Thomas Road through the first week of May. McDowell Road ramp work is programmed starting May 26th through July 24th.
Please be aware that the maximum speed limit on the mainline freeway through the construction zone is 55 MPH and speed limits on ramps and cross streets is 40 MPH. Beware of haul trucks entering and leaving the roadside areas as earthwork operations are now underway. Slow down for your own safety and that of construction crews and fellow motorists. All motorists are encouraged to be courteous and prepared at all times while traveling through the project zone.
LOOP 101 RESTRICTIONS in the 4-week Schedule
- The northbound on and off ramps at the Thomas Road & 101 interchange will be fully closed through May 7.
- The on and off ramps at the McKellips Road & 101 interchange will be fully closed in both directions through April 30.
Chaparral Road
- Chaparral Road will be closed in both directions under the freeway beginning 11PM Friday May 8th through 5PM Sunday May 10th to demo the outer barrier wall at the freeway bridge.
Via de Ventura
- Via de Ventura will be reduced by one lane in both directions from Via Costa to Via Linda 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through April 23 as trench work occurs.
90th Street
- 90th Street will be reduced by one lane in both directions immediately north of 90th Street 8 p.m. – 5 a.m. weeknights through April 22 as road improvements are made near the Mustang Transit Center.
- 90th Street will be reduced to one lane in both directions from Mountain View Road to Shea Boulevard 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays April 21 – 22 to permit asphalt replacement.
- 90th Street will be closed in both directions under the freeway on April 25th from 3AM-10AM to close the concrete decks.
- 90th Street will be closed in both directions under the freeway overnights May 4th – 7th from 9PM-5AM to pour the outer barrier walls.
- 90th Street will be closed in both directions under the freeway over the weekend of June 6th – 7th to patch and paint the bridge structure.
Indian Bend Road
- Indian Bend Road will be closed in both directions under the freeway beginning 10PM Monday May 4th through 5AM Thursday May 7th to demo the outer barrier wall at the freeway bridge.
McDowell Road
- McDowell Road will be closed in both directions under the freeway overnights May 11th – 14th from 10PM-5AM to strip and patch the bridge.
- McDowell Road will be closed in both directions under the freeway overnights May 18th – 21st from 10PM-5AM to paint the bridge.
Indian School Road
- Indian School Road will be closed in both directions under the freeway overnights May 26th – May 28th and June 1st – June 2nd from 10PM-5AM to paint the bridge.
- The westbound curb lane on Indian School Road will be closed at Pima Road 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays April 20 – 27 to permit utility work.
UPCOMING MAINLINE 101 CLOSURE
- Southbound 101 will be closed south of the southbound McKellips off-ramp overnight from 10PM Sunday May 17th until 5AM Monday May 18th for installation of new Freeway Message Board and support structures. The southbound McKellips Road off-ramp and on-ramp will be used as a detour route.
McKellips Road
- McKellips Road northbound on-ramp and southbound off-ramp will be closed beginning Monday March 2nd for a period of 60 days to realign these ramps.
- McKellips Road northbound off-ramp will be restricted to one lane beginning Monday March 2nd for a period of 120 days to realign the ramp.
McDowell Road
- McDowell Road ramps will be closed beginning Tuesday May 26th for a period of 60 days to realign the ramps.
Traffic entering or exiting the freeway should use McDowell or Indian School roads as alternates.
April, 2015 Schedule
CROSS-STREET RESTRICTIONS PROGRAMMED in the 4-week Schedule
- The Camelback multi-use path will be closed at the Loop 101 5 a.m. – 5 p.m. through Friday, April 17, for freeway bridge work. A suggested alternative route will be marked. Please do not walk or ride in the closure area.
- The inner left turn lanes under the Chaparral Road Bridge will be closed for approximately 4 weeks beginning April 7th for bridge foundations and piers. A single left-turn lane for east-north traffic will be maintained. West-south traffic will be detoured south on Pima Road to Indian School Road to access the southbound 101.
- Chaparral Road westbound under the freeway bridge will be restricted to a single through-lane and right-turn lane to northbound 101 during the day from 9AM to 3PM to provide a safe work zone for median and bridge pier construction.
- The inner left turn lanes under the Via de Ventura Bridge will be closed for approximately 4 weeks beginning April 8th for bridge foundations and piers. A single left-turn lane for east-north traffic will be maintained. West-south traffic will be detoured south on Pima Road to Indian Bend Road to access the southbound 101.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS SOUTH OF INDIAN BEND ROAD
- The eastbound curb lane on Thomas Road will be closed from 64th Street to 67th Place from 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through April 20 to permit driveway and sidewalk installation.
- Thomas Road will be reduced to one lane in both directions from Civic Center Plaza to Hayden Road through April 25.
- Lane restrictions will take place in both directions on Miller Road at Thomas Road through April 25.
- Traffic on Thomas Road will be reduced to one lane in each direction from Scottsdale Road to 78th Street through May 15 as street resurfacing takes place.
- McKellips Road will be reduced by one lane in each direction at Hayden Road 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through April 24 to permit trench work. During those same dates and times, the southbound curb lane on Hayden Road will be closed at McKellips Road.
- Lane restrictions will occur on 70th Street immediately north of 6th Street 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. weekdays through April 24 as utility work takes place.
- The curb lanes in both directions on Scottsdale Road will be closed from Osborn Road to Earll Drive 3 a.m. to noon April 20 – 30 as ramp and sidewalk repairs occur.
ROAD RESTRICTIONS NORTH OF THUNDERBIRD ROAD
- Traffic in both directions on Ranch Gate Road will be controlled by flaggers 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through May 1 to permit shoulder work, curb and gutter installation.
- The eastbound curb lane on Thompson Peak Parkway will be closed at Grayhawk Drive 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through April 22 as trench work occurs.
- Southbound traffic on 74th Street will be shifted to the two-way center lane from 75th Way to Grayhawk Drive 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through April 22 to permit boring.
- Southbound traffic on 78th Way will be shifted to the center of the roadway at Raintree Drive 8:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. weekdays through April 21 to permit boring.
- The westbound curb lane on Westland Drive will be closed at Scottsdale Road weekdays through April 28 as sidewalk installation and driveway removal occur.
- The eastbound curb lane on Thompson Peak Parkway will be closed at 90th Street 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through April 30 to permit trench work. During those same dates and times, a southbound left turn lane on 90th Street will be closed at Thompson Peak Parkway.
